FAQ

What’s a “first tap?”

A “first tap” refers to the first sap collected from maple trees each season. This sap produces a lighter, more delicate maple syrup, which we prefer because it creates a lighter flavor profile in our ice cream.

Why sweeten with maple syrup?

We use 100% pure maple syrup to sweeten First Tap Ice Cream because it is less refined than conventional white sugar and has a lower glycemic index. It also aligns with our commitment to using simple, recognizable ingredients.

Does your ice cream taste like maple syrup?

No! Even though we use maple syrup as our sweetener, the flavor imparted by the syrup is subtle and does not make the ice cream taste like maple syrup.

What is A2 milk?

A2 milk comes from cows that naturally produce only the A2 beta-casein protein. Some people find A2 milk easier to digest than traditional milk, which contains both A1 and A2 proteins.

What is arrowroot powder?

Arrowroot powder is a natural starch derived from a root vegetable. Because we sweeten our ice cream with maple syrup rather than refined sugar, arrowroot powder helps prevent large ice crystals from forming in the syrup, keeping the texture smooth and creamy.

Where do you source your ingredients?

Whenever possible, we source ingredients from local Ohio farms and producers that share our commitment to quality and transparency.

Why choose First Tap Ice Cream?

Our ice cream is crafted with high-quality ingredients and made without refined sugar, artificial sweeteners, gums, or unnecessary additives. We believe simple ingredients make a better product. We think you’ll agree!
